About the blog
This blog was written so I could post relevant links pertaining to Algebra I. Here’s my thinking – if you’re going to take a course online, why not be able to use online technology.
I will be posting links relevant to the modules as the course progresses, so keep checking in.
About Me
My name is Colleen Kerr Pimentel, but for the VHS, I go by Colleen Kerr.
I LOVE math – always have – even when friends would laugh at me. I also LOVE online learning, so this combines both. I grew up in Va Beach, went to VA Tech where I majored in Environmental Science and then got a Master’s in Instructional Design, so yeah, I also am a strong proponent of “green living” before there were books about how to live “green”. That’s a whole other blog.
I moved to Northern VA to work as an instructional designer after teaching for 1.5 yrs in Tidewater. I then decided to go back to teaching since I missed it, but while I was teaching, I missed having the time to create my own materials for online learning. So, I started working as a freelance instructional designer for Prince William Schools, then taught a class online, continued teaching in the classroom, and decided to resign from classroom teaching to work as an instructional designer and online instructor.
Oh – I also have a wonderful toddler named Joe and we’re expecting our second child in November, so being a mostly stay-at-home mom has been wonderful. Challenging at times, but I’m very lucky to be able to do it, and I basically have the best of all worlds. Well, except for the beach. And for fun I do what I can. I love being outside and doing whatever – hiking, kayaking, camping (even with a toddler and a dog), apple picking, etc. I enjoy cooking, reading, learning guitar, going to restaurants, reading about online learning, and making sure our environment at home is as clean and pure as possible.
And honestly, I do math for fun. My husband laughs at me, but really, I’ve stayed up to do a “math test” just to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything
